Noise-canceling blackout curtains – Find the best that offer more

According to the NCBI, in otherwise healthy adults, short-term consequences of sleep disruption include increased stress responsivity, somatic pain, reduced quality of life, emotional distress and mood disorders, cognitive, memory, and performance deficits. Noise-canceling blackout curtains can help with this.

Unfortunately, most people have to put up with noisy neighbors, barking dogs, and light creeping in through the curtains, which can disturb your sleep. What if you could find an easy solution to solve this? Noise-canceling blackout curtains do just that; they reduce sound from traveling in through the window and block out all light.

I have compiled a list of the best “Soundproof” curtains. It is important to note that installation plays a big role in the effectiveness of these products. They will not effectively block out all noise but can drastically reduce the “heard” sound.

Moondream noise-reducing curtains contain innovative technology (U.S. Patent No. 9475260) designed to absorb maximum volumes of sound to ensure undisturbed rest in your home. Capable of reducing the infiltration of external noise through a glazed window by up to 7 decibels, these acoustic curtains will transform your room into a cocoon.

Easily adaptable to suit any lifestyle needs, Moondream soundproof curtains carry the Moondream blackout promise and give you the freedom to adjust the light as you wish. The additional thermal layer is an innovative solution to maintaining an ideal room temperature all year round. Capable of preventing heat loss during winter and repelling sun radiation during summer, these drapes can also reduce household energy consumption and heating bills. ECLIPSE Absolute Zero Noise-canceling blackout curtains

Eclipse curtains are proven to block much more noise than ordinary curtains. Independent lab tests prove eclipse curtains block up to 40% more unwanted outside noise than ordinary curtains*.

The heavyweight materials used to construct this light-blocking level also provide maximum privacy, maximum noise reduction, and maximum energy savings. This level is the perfect choice for home theaters, bedrooms, or anywhere a pitch-black effect is desired and where any amount of light could be seen as a distraction. Absolute Zero is also recommended for night shift workers, as it provides the best simulation of a nighttime sleeping environment.

The innovative foam-back construction uses multiple passes of soft, white foam that increases the curtain’s insulation properties, helps dampen noise, and provides a significant barrier to sunlight. The specialized method of foam application allows the foam to bind completely to the face fabric creating a single, enhanced panel.

Often confused with Blackout curtains, Eclipse Absolute Zero curtains block 100% of outside light. Due to the strength of the sun’s rays, many curtains offer a light-blocking percentage just below 100%. With Absolute Zero curtains, you will create a pitch-black room.

Noise-canceling blackout curtains offer two benefits

Sound damping

They will block out common sound. The foam in these curtains absorbs the vibrations of sound and reduces background noise. This translates into less sound traveling through the curtains. The pleats in the curtains also assist by reflecting the sound, which further cuts down on sound transfer. The more pleats you’re able to get, the better. Although they are not primarily designed for this application, fortunately, they do have some of the right features to address and reduce sound traveling through, leaving you with a much quieter space.

Light blackout

The curtains block out almost all the light coming through the window. A percentage of 99 is often thrown around (I don’t think anyone actually measured this), but virtually all light. Foam-backed opaque fabrics are used, which are designed to block out light. Of course, the top, bottom, and sides of the curtain are the most likely to allow light to seep in. However, if you get the correct measurement and overlap, this will effectively reduce this problem. Also, they come with magnetic attachments that seal off light coming from the sides—easily the most convenient solution to blocking out unwanted light and letting it back in as you like.

Installation

They are easy to install too! You can use them as liners for existing curtains (depending on the type you buy). This allows you to maintain your current color scheme. You can also use a curtain rod and thread the blackout curtain through grommets. If you have a curtain rail that doesn’t utilize grommets to run the curtain, this will require you to change the rail system. However, even this process is relatively inexpensive and simple to carry out.

These curtains will suit most standard-sized windows. They last long and are not permanently fitted, making moving them around easy should the need arise. The standard size of each panel is 52” by 84” (104′ in total) and weighs in at about 4.5 pounds. It can be tricky to find customized measurements, but if you use a healthy overlap, it will make the curtains more effective by further ensuring no light and sound seeping in from the edges and the top.

Conclusion

There is no doubt that Noise-canceling blackout curtains will afford you extra comfort, in my opinion. They will block out a considerable amount of light and reduce noise entering from the window. They’re easy enough to install and are long-lasting without being permanent. What you should do is get a set, and it will be one less thing for you to worry about. However, if you feel you may need to block out even more sound, check my post on How to soundproof windows yourself.

Good luck and happy soundproofing!
