In a perfect world, you would be able to put on a pair of headphones and stop snoring instantly. Unfortunately, that’s not yet a possibility in this day and age. Sure they are ways to reduce the volume of your snoring, but noise-canceling headphones are not the solution. It may help the person you’re sleeping next to, but it’s going to be a long shot.

Getting a good night’s sleep is important to everyone, and more than that is keeping those that sleep near you happy and comfortable is arguably more important. If you’re a snorer, chances are it bothers those around you more than it bothers you. I suffered from sleep apnea for years, and it did not only play havoc with my energy levels, but it nearly cost me my marriage.
I struggled to keep my eyes open by 3 in the afternoon I would be dosing off. I had to pull over to the side of the road sometimes because I felt so sleepy, and it didn’t matter how much sleep I got the night before. It affected my job, my family life, and my well-being.
I had put on weight and had been inactive for years which was the main cause of my sleep apnea. The only sure solution was to lose weight and get more active. It took me 2 years, and I still snore, but at least it’s bearable and doesn’t frighten my wife into believing I am dying next to her when I stop breathing while I’m asleep. I was lucky, I guess. I managed to lose weight rapidly by reducing my sugar intake and balancing out my diet. It took at least 8 months before I saw any results, but I managed. I had lost 22kgs by then, and that cured me of my sleep apnea.
By this time, I had done a lot of research on stopping snoring and curing sleep apnea. I was determined to rid myself of this problem completely, and encouraged by my success; I continued looking for a solution.
Here’s what I’ve found out. there is no easy solution but the things that have helped the most are these.
- See a doctor. I didn’t see a doctor immediately, and in hindsight, that would have been a perfect place to start.
- A healthier lifestyle by balancing your meals. I’m not going to suggest any rad dieting schemes here. For me cutting out sugar and carbonated soft drinks was tough but worth the effort. Honestly, I still have the occasional cheat, but I don’t make it a habit, and I didn’t have to change the way I eat dramatically. I would have failed if I tried that.
- Regulate your eating patterns. This is easier said than done, but you can improve your metabolic rate and get better results over time if you do this.
- Find an exercise that will strengthen the muscle tissue that causes your snoring and sleep apnea. I use this program, and it worked the best for me. Also, it’s not very expensive.
- Be patient, and don’t give up. Make a plan, stick to the plan. Results worth seeing may take some time, but they will come.
It’s not an easy road to a peaceful night’s sleep by any stretch of the imagination. Certainly not as simple as putting on a pair of headphones but for a happier partner and a better quality of life, the effort is well worth it.
